Four Book Choice

I’ve got ninety-seven books to read and the pile keeps growing at a higher rate than which I can read. Despite the lack of space I will keep buying books, but I do wish to keep my TBR pile down perhaps five or ten books waiting to be read as opposed to a hundred.

I’m not reading quick enough because some books I don’t feel in the mood to read once I reach them. To remedy this instead of choosing the next book on the shelf I’ll look at the next four and pick which one I’d much rather read.

This week’s choices:

FactotumFACTOTUM by D.M. Cornish
Monster Blood Tattoo #3
Rossamund has exchanged Winstermill and the dangerous life of a lamplighter for Brandenbrass and an even more dangerous life as factotum to the aristocratic monster-slayer, Europe.
Fear and self-doubt must wait, however, as he plunges headlong into the fulgar’s day-to-day life of political manoeuvring, high-society parties and well-paid monster-hunting.
But whispers and rumours about her new factotum place Europe herself in danger, and now Rossamund and the Branden Rose will face the ultimate battle against their enemies, the black-hearted schemers who would destroy them both.

Definitely Dead DEFINITELY DEAD by Charlaine Harris
The Southern Vampire Mysteries #6
Sookie Stackhouse doesn’t have that many relations, so she really hated to lose one – but of all people to go, she didn’t expect it to be her cousin Hadley, a consort of New Orleans’ vampire queen – after all, Hadley was technically already dead.
But Hadley is gone, beyond recall, and she’s left Sookie an inheritance, one that comes with a bit of a risk – not least because someone doesn’t want Sookie digging too deep into Hadley’s possessions…or her past. Sookie’s life is once again on the line, and this time the suspects rang from rogue weres to her first love, the vampire Bill. Sookie’s got a lot to do if she’s going to keep herself alive…

Falling to Ash FALLING TO ASH by Karen Mahoney
A Moth Novel
Trapped between two very different worlds, newly made vampire Moth is struggling to find her place in either. Not only does she have to answer to her religious family but her over-protective Maker, Theo, is intent on making her the star attraction in his powerful Boston vampire clan. Moth will have to pull off the double-act of the century to please both of them.
Adding to her problems is the dangerously attractive Jason Murdoch, a trainee vampire hunter who loves to play cat and mouse in his spare time. But when the teenagers of Boston’s wealthiest families start to disappear, it forces Moth and Jace into an uneasy truce. Will they be able to solve the mystery behind the disappearances – before someone winds up undead?

HiddenHIDDEN by P.C. & Kristin Cast
A House of Night Novel #10
At last Zoey has what she wanted, the truth is out. Neferet’s evil has been exposed, and the High Council is no longer on her side – but she’s far from done wreaking havoc in the vampyre world.
With the seeds of distrust sown and Darkness breeding chaos at the House of Night, everyone must band together but that’s proving to be more difficult than ever before. The twins are barely speaking and the House of Night’s former enemy Kalona has now become their warrior, pushing their trust to the limits. Zoey knows that following her instincts might be just what they need to defeat evil…but if she’s wrong, it could cause the destruction of those closest to her.

My first week of choosing was difficult. I always love reading about Sookie, Charlaine Harris’ writing is easy to sink into. FALLING TO ASH looks like an interesting novel with a gorgeous cover. I am apprehensive to read FACTOTUM as it is 600+ pages and although I enjoyed the plotline in the first two novels in the Monster Blood Tattoo series I never found them thrilling to read.
However I decided on HIDDEN. The blurb doesn’t exactly entice me, the usual stuff is in there. Neferet taking over the world, Kalona not being able to pick a side, bitchy high school friend crap, but I do want to see this series out especially since DESTINED ended on a huge cliffhanger involving Heath and he’s my favourite of all the boys.

Cover Ratings:

FACTOTUM – ✪ ✪ ✪
FALLING TO ASH – ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ .5
HIDDEN – ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

I’ll let you know how Hidden goes and whether I think I made the right choice!

Bye for now 🙂
