Top Ten Tuesday

…is a weekly feature by The Broke and the Bookish blog (btw on their blog they mention signing their linky widget… anyone know what that means?). They do a weekly list of top ten [insert something book related].

I’m going with a cliqued type of books, but my aim is to recommend the good quality vampire romance books – not just the knock offs from Twilight

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
I had to start off with what was really the catalyst of the vampire romance genre. If you by chance have never read the Twilight novels before and you like romance don’t go past them just because of their popularity and that many people think the books are overrated. For a novel so popular there has to be a reason. But go in with a open mind, don’t have too high expectations, and just love it for the impossible romance… ❤

The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
This series is the kickass vampire romance books of the genre. There are two strong female protagonists who aren’t afraid to kick butt. They have the usual cast of hot guys and romance which keeps you hanging on happily (and intensely) for six novels. A movie was recently made and if it did turn you off, ignore it!!! The movie does not do the novels justice.

Vampire Diaries #1 The Awakening by L. J. Smith
By the way nothing like the TV show. I loved the first novel in this series. I am team Stefan and I loved the romance between himself & Elena. I’ve read four of the books in this series, which aren’t as awesome as the first, but still readable especially if you like love triangles

The Evernight Series by Claudia Grey
A highly underrated series which deals with a love interest who isn’t a vampire. That’s right, they are going for a different angle. However the girl isn’t the vampire either…

Balthazar by Claudia Grey
This could technically be a part of the Evernight series, but it’s written from the POV of a different character and doesn’t involve any of the other characters in the series except two. What do you call it? It’s a new series in the same world, but it’s only one book? Comment below if you know what they are called! 🙂

The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris
More commonly known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I LOVE this series. They are quite relaxing to read even though they are murder mysteries. Charlaine is an excellent writer and I love Sookie as a main character to spend many, many pages with.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Another series set after Vampire Academy, in the same world. It’s another long series with an interesting love story, and it ties off a loose love string from Vampire Academy

Okay guys I can’t think of three more that I’ve read and really liked. Others that I’ve read that are okay are the House of Night series, Vampire Kisses & the Morganville Vampires. I liked them all except Vampire Kisses – it was a bit blah.

Help me complete my list? Comment your three favourite vampire romance (or just vampire) novels/series, or more! 🙂

Link me to your lists too 🙂 It’ll be interesting to see what people come up with as it was a very open questions 😀 x
